SISTER BERNADETTE FLYNN

SISTER BERNADETTE FLYNN

Sister Bernadette was born in Hamilton, Ontario in January 1926. She brought a deep faith, generous heart and her love of music and dance, and pride in her Irish ancestry into religious life.

A graduate of Hamilton Teacher’s College she taught in Mt. Forest and Hamilton and while teaching acquired a degree in English and Music from McMaster University.  Over the years she was a teacher, principal and consultant in Hamilton and served as a psychometrist for the Durham County RCSSB.  Sister Bernadette brought energy and passion to all her ministries as well as a sense of compassion for those who had special needs including those who live in L’Arche Communities.

In her spare time she choreographed song and dance routines for the well-known Hamilton Orphans’ Festival and also organized concerts in schools where she ministered.

Sister Bernadette became involved in Parish Ministry at St. Michael’s Parish, Oakville and volunteered in the Program for Adult Education at St. Charles in Hamilton as well as the “Out of the Cold Program” in Hamilton, caring for those most in need. Sister Bernadette moved to Tansley Woods, Burlington in January of 2020 and was welcomed into the London Residence in the spring of 2023. She was in her 79th year as a Sister of St. Joseph.
