SISTER GIOVANNI FINORO

SISTER GIOVANNI FINORO

Angelina Finoro was born on December 3, 1936, in Guelph, Ontario and was received into the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Hamilton on September 8, 1953.

For 27 years, Sister Giovanni ministered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton, in a variety of managerial positions, including the Business Office, Admissions Department, Switchboard, and General Information. Upon retirement, her love and commitment to St. Joseph’s Hospital remained strong. Therefore, she returned to volunteer at the Information desk, where her warmth and gracious disposition were always evident.

In Sister Giovanni’s lifelong ministry, she and her dear friend Sr. Patricia Hanlon (pictured here together) recognized the importance of maintaining relationships with hospital staff.  They provided pastoral outreach to employees by visiting them in their homes, hospitals, nursing homes and funeral homes.  Together, they were true witnesses of love and compassion which helped to sustain people during their most difficult times.  This caring and love were also extended to their Sisters in community through phone calls, greetings and sending small gifts on special occasions.

In the spring of 2019, Sister Giovanni was welcomed along with other Hamilton sisters into the London Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph.  She will be remembered for her kindness, gracious disposition, and the gratitude she expressed for the care she was given in her final years.
