Sister St. Bride (Sarah Ann) was born on October 23, 1923, in Longhgeil, County Antrim, Ireland. She was received into the Sisters of St. Joseph on January 3, 1942, at Sacred Heart Convent, London where she professed her final vows on August 25, 1947.
St. Bride’s early ministries were in housekeeping and laundry at convents in Belle River, Seaforth, and St. Peter’s Seminary. Following her graduation from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, she held various positions of responsibility at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chatham, and General Hospital in Killam, Alberta, where she was Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator. She also served at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Galahad, Alberta, and the Congregation’s regional house infirmary in Edmonton.
Sister St. Bride was an avid sports fan taking particular interest in the fortunes of the Edmonton Elks. Her door was always open to welcome others for a chat. Her visitors were treated to the tales of a delightful storyteller who easily engaged them in a memorable interchange.
