Not Wanting the Story to End

Have you ever found yourself hooked on a book or enjoying spending time with a fictive character only to begin not wanting the story to finish? One of my friends recently launched my relationship with one such memorable character, created by author Jacqueline Winspear.

I draw your attention to the Maisie Dobbs series without any spoiler warnings. The reader first encounters Maisie in Book One of the series that bears her name. In 1910, after her mother’s death, Maisie, at thirteen begins working as a servant girl to help her father, a street fruit and vegetable seller make ends meet. Her father’s good reputation as a reliable vendor earns her a job placement in the mansion of her affluent employer in Central London. An avid reader, like myself, she is soon discovered reading in the library. Rather than facing dismissal as she feared her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan, admiring her thirst for learning, sets about to support her pursuit of education. With the support of her patron and her Lady Rowan’s family friend, Dr. Maurice Blanche, the twists and turns of this readable, engaging historical mystery series begins to unfold amid the varying circumstances of the changing times.

Books in this series can be found in your public library, local bookshops, the Kindle Store or online...but a warning you could get hooked!
