Cultural nightmares of our time, like global warming and horror scenes of warfare, are certainly shifting our consciousness – toward the awareness that our conventional ways of being and acting are seriously out of kilter with the wider web of life. We are beginning to understand differently from the outside, but at the inner level the conversion has scarcely begun. I use “inner” here as applied to both our collective and individual identities.
